Cooking With Activated Charcoal
Why Use Activated Charcoal in Food?
Activated Charcoal is Growing In Popularity
The current fad in food experimentation seems to be cooking with activated charcoal. Activated charcoal used in a daily routine is becoming more common than ever before. Perhaps it’s in your daily supplement routine, used for a cleanse to detoxify your body, or as an aid to whiten teeth and pull impurities from the skin. The point is, the joys of activated charcoal are becoming widely more popular each day because of its diverse abilities and uses.
We have all heard the latest crazes about activated charcoal in food. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to see all the various creations. For example, charcoal ice cream with charcoal waffle cones, charcoal lemonade, charcoal in juice bars, cupcakes with black frosting, charcoal cookies and the lists go on... These fantastic looking treats are being posted all over the internet in a frenzy. The truth is that cooking with activated charcoal has been a staple in many cultures for centuries (check out the history of charcoal on our website for more information http://www.charcoalremedies.com/).
Global Trends and Techniques
Asian cultures rely on it for the reduction of acidic content in their foods, and some say that baking with it has kept their food fresh longer. Likewise, European cultures have used it to help reduce gas and bloating by baking it into biscuits that they have with tea after a filling meal. Meanwhile, here at Charcoal House, we have in the past composed a DIY slideshow on how to detoxify your fruit using charcoal (https://www.facebook.com/BuyActivatedCharcoalCom/videos/1040946512778729/). This is so that you can enjoy your produce without the added pesticides and chemicals.
What We Recommend
Reasons to cook with activated charcoal are plentiful, but most importantly it’s fun and interesting to experiment with. Just remember it can be a little messy if you aren’t mixing it carefully… Finally, we recommend using a bamboo activated charcoal that is a food grade quality. We would love to know what you can create using charcoal in your food. Activated Charcoal Smoothie Chia Seed Pudding Bowl, Vegan Detox with Raspberry and Coconut Milk
Ingredients
½ Cup Almond Milk (Original Unsweetened)
½ Cup Full Fat Coconut Milk
2 Tbs Pure Maple Syrup (No Added Sugar)
½ tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
2 tsp Bamboo Activated Charcoal Powder
¼ Cup Chia Seeds
1 Cup Raspberries (Fresh or Frozen)
Directions:
First in a blender, add the first four ingredients and blend until well mixed. If you desire, add ½ Cup of raspberries to the mixture and blend again until well incorporated. Next add in the Chia Seeds and mix well by hand (do not blend as you want the seeds to remain whole). Next, place half the mixture into two cups or bowls and allow it to set for at least 8 hours or overnight. This will allow the Chia Seeds to work and create the pudding like texture, making this a great dessert option or perfect breakfast to grab on the go. Finally, once the pudding has set, gently mix in the 2 tsp of activated charcoal powder to the pudding along with the remaining raspberries and enjoy!
