Question:  I have diarrhea and am taking charcoal tablets to stop it.  I am going to try a charcoal poultice also.  I'm dehydrated and was wondering if the charcoal adsorbs electrolytes? I have found your site very informative and helpful, especially with the youtube instructions.  I also have your book. Thank you, Janet Answer: Hello Janet. The simple answer and good news is'no, the activated charcoal will not adsorb your electrolytes.' Depending on how severe your diarrhea is, you might need to be taking more than just a few charcoal tablets. Taking a heaping tablespoon or more of the activated charcoal powder would be more in line to stop a nasty case of diarrhea. Placing a charcoal poultice over your abdomen at bedtime is a great idea as well, the charcoal can literally pull toxins from deep tissue while you sleep. I had a bout of violent diarrhea, where in just minutes I was passing just water, when we were in Uganda some years ago. My first dosage of the charcoal powder in water was at least four heaping tablespoons. I did this twice and it took care of it quite quickly. It was a real eye opener for me and I now understood how little children or anyone whose immune systems are down can die from severe diarrhea in 24 to 48 hours. I never travel without my activated charcoal powder and I take lots of it, not just for myself but for others as well. My personal preference?  The Detox 1600 of course!
